FAQs
-
Is this a full time or part time position?
Air Reading partners with teachers as independent contractors. Teachers typically teach part-time hours, and the number of classes you teach depends on alignment between your availability and school needs.
Are teaching hours guaranteed?
Teaching hours vary based on school demand. Hours cannot be guaranteed, but teachers who offer more peak-hour availability across weekdays generally have a higher likelihood of being booked.
Are there any scheduling expectations?
There is no minimum number of hours or classes that you are expected to teach. Teaching opportunities vary based on school demand, and teachers can choose the availability they wish to offer. Teachers who provide more peak hour availability across weekdays generally have a higher likelihood of being booked for classes.
How many students will I teach per class?
Teachers typically teach small groups of students, with no more than four students per group. Class groupings are based on school requests and student reading levels.
How many days a week will I teach?
Most class groups meet three to five days per week from Monday through Friday, depending on school scheduling preferences.
Can I choose which age or grade I want to teach?
Class assignments are based on your availability and student reading levels. Because groups are leveled by reading skill, you may work with students of different ages within the same group.
Are classes available over the summer?
Some partner schools request summer instruction. Summer classes are offered, but they are more limited than during the school year and are not guaranteed.

How long does the application process take?
After passing the initial application stage, you will receive the materials needed for your demo submission. Once your demo is submitted, you can expect a response within two to three business days. If your demo is approved, you will be sent a contract to sign, followed by instructions for additional onboarding tasks.
When can I begin teaching?
After passing the demo process, you will complete three onboarding steps: submitting documents, completing a tech check, and attending a workshop. These steps are completed at your own pace, and the sooner you finish them, the sooner you will be eligible to receive classes. The workshop and tech check are live sessions offered at specific times. Your timeline may vary depending on your availability and how quickly you are able to attend the required sessions. Once finished, you will be eligible to begin accepting class assignments.
Do I need to complete a background check or fingerprinting?
You will receive instructions to complete a background check after you are assigned your first class. Once that class is assigned, our background check provider will email you with the link and steps needed to complete your form. Be sure to follow the instructions in that message to submit your background check.
Additional state-based fingerprint background checks are required by some of our partner schools in order to teach their students. You may choose to complete these additional fingerprinting checks in order to be eligible for class assignments with those schools.
Will I be paid for onboarding?
Yes, teachers receive $40 for onboarding after teaching their first class. These steps include submitting all required documents, attending a 15-minute tech check, and attending a two-hour workshop.

What are the technology requirements?
Because instruction is delivered online, teachers need to provide their own stable internet connection and a desktop or laptop computer with a working camera. These are prerequisites to joining us as a teacher. Classes are conducted on Zoom or Google Meet.
